This returning client asked me to renovate their bedroom and attached lounge area to make her “smile and feel more uplifted.” The goal was to transform their drab, blue/grey/bright yellow bedroom and lounge area into a comfortable, relaxing, and uplifting retreat. However, while they were willing to remove some furniture and artwork, they preferred to keep most of the existing pieces.
We started by finishing an incomplete wall behind the recliners that, for some unknown reason, the builder had failed to properly connect to the bedroom. We brightened the entire space with Benjamin Moore Chantilly Lace, swapped grey shag carpet for warm herringbone parquet, and brought in new brass lighting.
We replaced all the hardware and even added handles to the existing side tables, for a fresh, cohesive look.
A stunning beach scene by artist Nitzan Fux became the room’s focal point, customized with hints of grey to tie in with the remaining headboard and side tables.
To maintain a coastal feel without going "shell and starfish" cliché, we hung elegant sculptural brass birds. These ecco the brass in the updated sconces and the new handles on the closets and drawers. We also replaced the too-short grey drapery with full-length flowing white curtains that let in soft natural light.
The result is a light-filled, contemporary bedroom that feels fresh, uplifting, and serene and brings a smile to the clients' faces.
